Trend reports are important to the fashion industry as they show designers where to aim/target there designs to keep current and sell the most products. Yet still there are decisions to be made! Do they follow the trickle up or trickle down route? Trickle up is where inspiration is taken from street fashion and made main stream and trickle down is where inspiration is taken from the catwalks and high end designers.
Designers study trend reports to understand what is ‘in fashion’ or ‘on trend’ before they design a collection so that they can aim there collection towards these ideas. Unless you’re a designer like Katie Jones and don’t look at trends but have a specific target market in mind or just want to be different to everyone else and be ‘trendy’ by not being ‘on trend’!!
